Recorded and released in 1968, the album hit number five on the U.K. album charts, and was nominated for a Grammy in the U.S. It was produced by Joe Boyd, and engineered by John Wood using 24-track technology. Robin Williamson, Mike Heron, and Licorice McKechnie also utilized the talents of Dolly Collins (vocals, flute, organ, and piano), and David Snell (harp). Williamson and Heron employed a vast array of instruments on these songs including sitar, gimbri, pan pipe, oud, chahanai, mandolin, guitars, Hammond B-3, dulcimer, harpsichord, pan pipes, oud, water harp, and harmonica. The songs were much more freeform and experimental. Check Heron’s 13-minute ""A Very Cellular Song, "" which incorporates elements from a Sikh hymn and a Bahamian spiritual. Using the Hammond, a gimbri, pan pipes, handclaps, and other instruments, it begins on a two-chord vamp that employs a vocal round in five-part harmony, with secular and spiritual lyrics. It’s simply infectious. Other notables include the stellar ""The Minotaur’s Song, "" with its call and response chorus played on guitars, upright piano, and six-part harmonies. It melds a children’s song with a drinking song to humorous and utterly memorable effect. Elsewhere, ""Waltz of the New Moon, "" employs two-chord drones on acoustic guitar with a meld of Middle Eastern vocal styles and Scottish field songs. ""Three Is a Green Crown"" is a psychedelic folk song in all its hypnotic droning glory with Williamson’s primitive sitar playing featured prominently. The tender, exotic, ""Nightfall, "" the album’s closer, is a lullaby, with guitar and sitar accompanying the vocal in whole tone intervals. Wollstein, All Movie Guide The Atomic Brain This weird, morbid little sci-fi thriller stars Marjorie Eaton as a filthy-rich but decrepit old widow who has devoted much of her wealth to funding the dubious (to say the least) scientific research of Frank Gerstle, who has constructed a mad lab in the widow’s basement in order to perfect a technique in which an infusion of atomic energy (or something) will enable him to transfer the widow’s brain into a young and sexy physique. To this end, three subjects are solicited through a want ad (under the pretense of employing a housekeeper). The three young women, all of different nationalities (represented by horrendous accents), are subjected to the old woman’s scrutiny, until she selects the prime candidate… as the others become fodder for the doctor’s pet projects. Needless to say, things don’t turn out quite as planned: people are burned, torn apart by man-beasts, and get their eyes ripped out — one poor lass even winds up with the brain of a cat. This has a certain perverse charm and is competently directed (excepting some boring stretches) by Joseph V. Mascelli — who, in spite of his work on this film and Ray Dennis Steckler’s The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-up Zombies, would later publish a well-known book on cinematography. ~ Cavett Binion, All Movie Guide Love After Death In this Argentine crime/fantasy/sex drama, a timid but rich young man (Guillermo de Cordova) is buried alive by his scheming wife and her lover, a criminal doctor. He manages to dig himself out, but the experience unhinges him mentally and turns him into a voyeur. He decides to try to become a rapist but can’t quite manage it. Among the strange people he meets are old voyeur lesbians and a transvestite exotic dancer. The Walt Disney animated feature Meet the Robinsons, based on William Joyce’s book A Day with Wilbur Robinson, about a 12-year-old boy who travels into the future, is not a musical per se, but as this soundtrack album shows, there is plenty of music in it. Danny Elfman composed the score, cues from which take up 29 of the disc’s 53 minutes. Stukas over Disneyland, released after a four-year silence, shows the Dickies training their popcorn wiseguy sights somewhat away from the hardcore and Ramones influences of earlier platters to that of power pop and ’60s songs. The former of the two new influences is showcased in the tunefully memorable "Pretty Please Me" and "If Stuart Could Talk"; the latter is evident in "Rosemary" (with its Beatles-on-caffeine bridge), "Wagon Train" (which sports a broad tune that evokes comparisons to old Western T.V. show theme songs), "Out of Sight, Out of Mind" (featuring a chorus that echoes the one in Ricky Nelson’s "Garden Party"), and especially the title track (which exhibits noticeable surf music and Chuck Berry influences and sets ironic, humorous lyrics detailing a Disney-based world takeover). Bows to their earlier punk influences can be seen in the uproariously funny "She’s a Hunchback" (complete with smart-aleck references to the Victor Hugo novel) and a giddy cover of the Led Zeppelin classic "Communication Breakdown." The 1988 re-release appends three songs ("Gigantor, " "I’m Okay, You’re Okay, " and "Bedrock Barney") cast in the Dickies old cartoon hardcore manner; while all are likable and welcome, the addition of these numbers makes this release seem more stylistically schizophrenic than it originally was. Regardless of the version obtained, this excellent album is an enjoyable and recommended listen.

This two-fer from Collectables features a pair of out of print Dukes of Dixieland LP’s: Dukes of Dixieland at Disneyland and Struttin’ at the World’s Fair both originally issued on Columbia in 1962 and 1964, respectively. Among the 16 cuts are several fun renditions of early jazz standards "Wolverine Blues, " "Royal Garden Blues, " "Canal Street Blues, " and "Caravan."
